A new playground opened Wednesday in Springfield, Mo. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. It’s named after Hailey Owens, a fourth grader who was abducted and murdered in February.
Hailey’s teacher choked back tears as she talked about the 10-year-old and the playground that bears her name.
“When we come together at Hailey’s playground, we can honor and remember how she strengthened us as a community,” said an emotional Tara Tharp, Hailey’s fourth-grade teacher.
A Springfield businessman and philanthropist helped fund the project.
