(KMOV)— A man was killed in a car crash late Saturday night, when a wrong-way driver struck him in a head-on collision on Interstate 55.

It happened around 11:45 at I-55 and Bayless.

According to Missouri Highway Patrol, Hai Pham, 46, was driving southbound in the northbound lanes in a Toyota Sienna. He was reportedly swerving between lanes when he collided head-on with John Casalone, 51, in his Toyota Camry.

Casalone was pronounced dead at the scene.

A News 4 photographer noticed that the engine of the Camry had been pushed into the front seat during the collision, pinning Casalone in the car. Firefighters were unable to extricate him until around 1:15 Sunday morning.

All northbound lanes of the interstate were closed while crews were on the scene. They have since reopened.
