FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. (AP) -- A grandma armed with a cane trumped a man up to no good.
Police in the southern Illinois community of Fairview Heights say two women in their 70s on Monday arrived at the home of one of them and discovered it was being burglarized. As one called police on a cellphone, the alleged burglar left the house. The women confronted the man, who in turn attempted to take the cellphone.
The other woman beat the man with a cane until his attack on the other woman ended.
Fairview Heights Police Detective Tim Mueller says the suspect, who remains at large, damaged his auto as he pulled away.
Neither woman was seriously injured during the confrontation.
Mueller says police recommends crime victims should be observers and shouldn't confront suspected criminals.
