HAZELWOOD, Mo. (KMOV) -- St. Louis County police are investigating after a student resource officer at Hazelwood East High School discharged his revolver.
Authorities said around 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, a school resource officer was cleaning his gun when his revolver discharged.
The bullet went through an office wall in the school and into the nurse’s station. No one was hurt. District officials say kids were in the hallways and the cafeteria is nearby.
Internal Affairs is investigating how this could have happened. It's not clear at what point the weapon discharged during cleaning.
The officer will no longer serve at Hazelwood East. Police and school officials admit some changes may be in store.
The officer involved is a 5-year veteran of the St. Louis County force. He is still on duty, since no one was hurt.
The school did send a letter home to parents.
