The St. Louis Cardinals (20-15) continue an important stretch in the Central Division race on Tuesday against the hated Chicago Cubs (15-18).  The Cards took 2 of 3 from the Milwaukee Brewers (14-20) over the weekend leaving them 1.5 games ahead of the Cincinnati Reds (18-16).

Tuesday's 7:05 PM matchup with the Cubs is a dandy.  Chris Carpenter (0-2) looks to get his first win of the season.  And who better to get it against than Cardinals fan un-favorite, Carlos Zambrano (4-1).  Zambrano is no doubt a fiery competitor and a solid pitcher, but his emotional antics make him that much easier for Cardinals fans to dislike.  Throw a baby bear on his uniform and gross is the word that comes to mind.  In fact I'd be curious to hear who Cardinals fans dislike more right now, Zambrano or loud-mouthed Brandon Phillips of the Reds.

Wednesday's 7:00 PM matchup pits Jake Westbrook (2-2) against Matt Garza (1-4).  And the series finale Thursday at 1:20 PM will be the battle of the youngsters, 24 year old Jaime Garcia (4-0) vs. 23 year old Casey Coleman (1-2).  Garcia is coming off a complete game shutout and his best game of his young career.

Cardinals shortstop Ryan Theriot makes his return to Wrigley Field on the other side of the rivalry.  In fact he commented in the off season that he's finally on the right side of the rivalry.

I have one more observation as a Cardinals fan.  The Cardinals only have one weekend series at Wrigley Field this season and it's not until August 19th-21st.  The rest, like this one, are all during the week.  We know Cardinal Nation will represent, but that's likely to reduce the number of Cards fans that invade the Windy City for the rivalry.  I for one am disappointed.  I met my girlfriend outside Wrigley Field last year after a Cardinals game.  And yes, she's a Cardinals fan.
