ST. LOUIS (AP) -- The three-member board that oversees the St. Louis School District has directed the superintendent to conduct an internal investigation into allegations that district personnel improperly recorded student attendance.

The Missouri auditor's office is also performing its own inquiry.

At issue is whether attendance has been inflated at the Patrick Henry Downtown Academy. According to the district, attendance at the grade school is high and enrollment has doubled in recent years.

Board president Rick Sullivan says it is important that the district's data is credible to maintain integrity in the community. The investigation is expected to be completed within two weeks.
