JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The Missouri Veterans Commission says the state's veterans and their families received more than $1 billion in compensation and pension payments in 2010 -- up about 11 percent from the previous year.
Veterans and their families receive compensation from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for pensions, disabilities and service-related deaths.
In all, the VA spent more than $2.2 billion in Missouri last year. Part of that money went toward VA clinics, veteran education programs and the costs of veterans' medical care.
