ST. CHARLES (KMOV) – An accident involving a fire truck on Interstate 70 near First Capitol Drive caused a traffic back-up during the Wednesday morning commute.

Around 4:45 a.m., officers from the St. Charles police department, the Missouri Highway Patrol and the St. Charles fire department were called to the scene of a driver complaining of chest pain.

When emergency personnel arrived to the area, a fire truck was rear ended by a different vehicle.

The driver of that car was trapped for some time, and emergency crews had to extricate him from the car. He was taken to an area hospital with severe lower body injuries.

No other injuries were reported.

The man who originally reported chest pains refused treatment.
