(KMOV) – Nearly two hundred local soldiers are preparing for a year-long mission in Afghanistan.
On Sunday, members of the Missouri National Guard’s 11-38th Transportation Company gathered at Mehlville Senior High School, where Gov. Jay Nixon and other political leaders thanked the soldiers for their service and wished them luck.
The 170 local guardsmen who are getting deployed will take part in convoy operations throughout Afghanistan.
Before heading to the Middle East, the soldiers will first head to Fort Bliss, Texas to train for the mission.
