(KMOV) – An elderly woman in her 80s is dead after a house fire in the 3900 block of Alexander.

This happened Thursday night around 8 p.m.

Marie Forys, 82, lived in a duplex right next door to her family.

Authorities say her family called 911 when they smelled smoke. They say the family had just checked on Forys less than 30 minutes prior to the fire.

According to fire officials the woman had already sustained serious burns by the time they arrived on the scene. They say the fire likely started in overstuffed furniture and consumed the entire first room.

The cause of the fire has not been released information, but officials say they believe it was accidental.
