(KMOV) – The Thursday evening commute around St. Louis is turning out to be better than expected with nearly a foot of snow on the ground in some spots.
The Missouri Department of Transportation focused on the main highways in the area on Thursday, and at least two lanes of most highways were clear of snow.
Due to the focus on main highways and streets, many side roads and overpasses are still covered in snow.
When the snow freezes overnight, drivers could possibly see more problems Friday morning. When it’s 30 degrees, MoDOT says that one pound of road salt can melt 46 pounds of ice. However when it’s 10 degrees, that same pound of salt will only melt five pounds of ice.
