Area road crews working on roads for late night traffic
By KMOV Web Producer
(KMOV)-- Two questions are still on the minds of local drivers: did road crews clear streets in time for the commute home, and what conditions can be expected tonight when temperatures drop to single digits?
Right now, interstates are clear, and traffic is moving well.
One problem still exists on area highways, though. Deep snow continues to sit on some exit ramps, causing slick conditions.
Mark Hayes was on his way home when his car slid off the roadway on an exit ramp at I-210 and Highway 111. His car got stuck in the snow.
IDOT road crews hoped to get the interstates cleared and dried before the sun went down to guarantee there would not be a refreeze.
The standard mixture of salt is not very effective below 12 degrees.
Road crews are ready to switch to a different mixture if necessary to prevent black ice.
