(KMOV)-- Police have charged a man in connection to a robbery that occurred at the Community First Bank in Fairview Heights on Saturday.
Khaleel Hamid, 36, is charged with aggravated robbery and bond is set at $300,000.
According to police around 11:24 am the Fairview Heights Police Department began investigating a bank robbery that occurred at Community First Bank, on the 4600 block of North Illinois.
Police say, Hamid allegedly entered the bank, presented a note to a teller and demanded money. The note indicated that he was armed with a handgun. The teller complied with the Hamid’s request and allegedly fled from the bank with an undisclosed amount of currency.
Hamid was seen by witnesses leaving the area in a vehicle. An bank customer was able to follow the vehicle as it left the area and relay the information to the police.
At approximately 11:27 am, an O’Fallon police officer observed Hamid driving the vehicle on Old Collinsville Road. The O’Fallon officer was able to stop the vehicle near the intersection of Old Collinsville Road and Autumn Pine, where Hamid was taken into custody without incident.
No one was injured in the incident.
