Arnold auto shop worker injured by exploding tire

ARNOLD, Mo. (AP) -- A worker at an auto repair shop south of St. Louis is in the hospital after being badly injured by an exploding tire.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports the 29-year-old man works at Best Auto Repair in the Jefferson County town of Arnold.

A spokesman for the Rock Community Fire Protection says the man was airing the tire of a dump truck Monday morning when it exploded. The spokesman, Ron Harder, says the man was thrown against a wall and was hit by shards from the tire's rim.

Harder says the worker was taken to St. Anthony's Medical Center with head trauma. He was in critical condition Monday afternoon.
