TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- A senator's office says President Barack Obama plans to loosen Cuban travel policy to allow students and church groups to go to the communist country.

A spokesman for Sen. Bill Nelson said the State Department briefed Nelson's staff on the changes Friday.

They also include allowing any American to send up to $2,000 a year to Cuban citizens who are not part of the Castro government and are not members of the Communist Party.

Nelson spokesman Dan McLaughlin said the State Department told the staff that the changes will take place within the next three weeks.

The Obama administration had no immediate comment.
