(KMOV)-- A woman has died as a result of the tornado that hit Fenton New Year's Eve.  According to a friend, she was driving on Highway 141 when the tornado picked up and tossed her car.

Margaret "Peggy" Birkes died Monday on her 70th birthday.

Folks at Kellison Elementary School are now mourning the loss of Birkes.  She wasn't a teacher there but a volunteer who spent time each week helping children with reading difficulties.

Birkes was with OASIS Intergenerational Tutoring, a national program based in St. Louis.

According to the obituary in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, she was a mother of four, grandmother of seven.  In lieu of flowers the family is requesting contributions be made to OASIS Intergenerational Tutoring, 7710 Carondelet, Ste. 125, St. Louis, MO 63105.
