GRANITE CITY, Ill. (AP) -- Authorities say a 79-year-old man shoveling snow outside his southwestern Illinois home collapsed and died after an apparent heart attack.
Madison County Coroner Steve Nonn says Donald Johannigmeier's (jo-hahn-NIG'-my-er's) wife found her husband unresponsive Tuesday on their driveway after he had gone out to shovel but did not come back inside.
Johannigmeier was pronounced dead a short time later at a hospital.
Nonn cautions that snow shoveling, specifically by the elderly or people with heart disease, should be done cautiously and with frequent breaks.
