(KMOV) – The snowy weather that showered the area on Tuesday presented some challenges to drivers throughout the day, but overall, the Missouri Department of Transportation reports only minor accidents during the morning commute.

One accident involved two tractor-trailers on Interstate 70 at Lake St. Louis. Diesel fuel spilled and westbound I-70 was shut down while crews cleared the scene.

Another accident at I-270 and I-44 involved two vehicles that had to be towed. By mid-morning, there were about three dozen minor accidents.

MoDOT says it had all 200 of its trucks out on the roadways.

MoDOT says it changed its game plan for the afternoon rush hour. Instead of paying so much attention to the interstates, it branched out and paid more attention to the secondary routes.

Road conditions in the Metro East ranged from good to treacherous. Some roads were wet and slushy, but others were covered in snow and ice.

The state police did not report any major wrecks, and drivers say they were extra careful.

The Illinois Department of Transportation says most roads are clear, but snow plows will stay out to clear areas affected by blowing snow.
