(KMOV) – A fire broke out at an old quarry site in north St. Louis County Monday afternoon shortly after 3 near New Halls Ferry and Douglas Road.
Fire officials confirm that a two-story metal building used for storage was ablaze, and that at first there was concern over a possible explosion.
Several departments assisted with fighting the flames. Water supply was an issue because there were no fire hydrants around. A tanker with additional water supply was brought in to help.
A semi truck was inside of the building. There was also a storage tank with diesel fuel next to the building, but it withstood the flames.
Officials say no one was inside, and there is no word on the cause.
