Caramelized Apple Tart

3 ounces  Butter
6 ounces  Granulated Sugar
3 ea  Granny Smith Apples, peeled, cored, and cut into large wedges
1 sheet  Prepared raw puff pastry dough


• In a 9” nonstick sauté pan, melt butter
• Sprinkle sugar over melted butter in an even layer
• Arrange apple wedges into a decorative pattern in pan
• Heat over medium heat on stove until apples begin to soften, and sugar begins to caramelize
• Remove from heat, allow to cool for 5 minutes
• Drape raw puff pastry over apples, tuck any excess dough into edges of pan
• Place sauté pan into oven, preheated to 400°F
• Bake until pastry is golden brown, about 15-20  minutes
• Place a large serving plate upside down over baked tart
• CAREFULLY invert tart onto plate
• If necessary, move apples back into place with a paring knife
• Allow to cool completely
