(KMOV) – United States Senator Mark Kirk and Congressman John Shimkus of Illinois met with constituents Monday night during the first town hall-type meeting to take place since the Arizona shootings over the weekend.
The public officials met under the watchful eye of Collinsville police. They did this not because of any threat or because they expected a problem, but because police just want to be more safe after the weekend shootings.
This may mark a change in how events with public officials and constituents are monitored in the future. Police Chief Scott Williams says he wouldn’t normally send officers unless the elected official requested it, but the Arizona shootings prompted different measures.
