EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) -- One of three suspects in the 2008 shooting death of a man in the Mississippi River city of Alton has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to a first-degree murder count.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that 26-year-old Qirshton Smith of Cottage Hills was sentenced Friday. In exchange for her guilty plea, prosecutors dropped counts of home invasion, armed robbery and aggravated battery with a firearm.
Authorities say 54-year-old Frank Smith was fatally shot in the back in his home in an apparent robbery that also wounded his nephew. Qirshton Smith was unrelated to Frank Smith but had been his live-in girlfriend until their breakup shortly before the killing.
Two other defendants already are imprisoned in the killing.
