CHICAGO (AP) -- Attorneys for imprisoned former Illinois Gov. George Ryan are blasting prosecutors in a new court filing, calling their decision to disclose that Ryan visited his ailing wife earlier this week "shabby behavior."
The strongly worded filing follows a government filing earlier Friday that revealed Ryan had been escorted from his Indiana prison Wednesday for a two-hour visit at Lura Lynn Ryan's hospital bedside.
The filings are all related to a pending defense motion to the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for Ryan to be released on bail. Prosecutors opposed bail, partly citing Wednesday's visit.
Ryan's attorney, former Gov. James Thompson, says revealing the visit violated federal prison policies.
The filing by Ryan's attorneys also accuses prosecutors of using the visit "as a weapon to deny Ryan's request for bail."
