(KMOV) – A Jennings police officer has been benched for allegedly shooting at a suspect’s car while a child was inside.
The 3-year veteran has been suspended while police conduct the investigation.
Police say the alleged bad guy sped through Bel Ridge, hit a parked squad car and headed down Interstate 70. They say he refused to stop.
As the pursuit heated up, a Bel Ridge police officer noticed a child in the back seat of the suspect’s car. Bel Ridge then called the chase off.
But just as Bel Ridge officers were waving the white flag, a Jennings squad car jumped into the race.
The chase ended at Bircher and Shreve, only after the Jennings officer fired several shots at the car carrying the child.
No one was hurt in the shooting, and police were able to arrest the suspect.
However, the Jennings Police Department must still decide the fate of the officer accused of shooting at the suspect’s vehicle.
The department says it will look at the video tape from the officer’s dashboard camera for more answers.
