(KMOV) -- Not wearing a seat belt in Missouri could become five times more costly if a senate proposal is passed.
St. Louis Democrat Joe Keaveny would like the fine for not wearing a seat belt to go from $10 to $50.
Right now drivers and passengers cannot be pulled over for not wearing a seat belt unless another violation is being committed.
Safety advocates want this to change but so far the idea has gone no where in the legislature.
