CARTHAGE, Mo. (AP) -- A southwest Missouri man who said masked intruders abducted his infant son has been charged with second-degree murder in the baby's death.
The Jasper County prosecutor filed the charge against 29-year-old Carthage resident Eddie A. Salazar on Wednesday, one day after a medical examiner ruled the death a homicide.
Eight-month-old Eddie Salazar Jr. had been the subject of a massive search after the father told police Feb. 4 that two masked men broke into their home, beat him up and took the baby away.
The infant's body was discovered Feb. 6 in a river east of Carthage. Police announced that same day that Salazar had been charged with making a false police report.
Salazar was being held Wednesday without bond. Court records did not list a lawyer for him.
