Budget problems in the St. Louis Police Department could possibly translate into job losses.
Police Chief Daniel Isom said that cuts are likely to come if he cannot get the money he needs from city hall. The new proposed budget shows the police department will be $7 million in the red. This might force Isom to make some difficult decisions; the worst case scenario could mean 200 jobs lost.
Isom is forming committees inside police headquarters to look at the budget issue and find ways to make cuts within the next few months.
The new fiscal year doesn't start until summer, so there is still time for the department to find ways to trim its budget within the next few months. However, the consensus is that there will most likely be some jobs lost, at the very least through attrition.
