The new Mississippi River Bridge project will have its presence felt this week when roads are shut down for bridge demolition.
Road crews will shut down the reversible lanes on I-70 near downtown St. Louis Friday at 8 p.m. from the Poplar Street Bridge to St. Louis Avenue to knock down the Cass Avenue Bridge.
That stretch of road will reopen Monday by 5 a.m. Crews will shut down the stretch of road again for three days in March to tear down the Madison Street Bridge.
Crews suggest you take detours on Broadway, Washington Avenue or Memorial Drive.
Contractors must meet deadlines set to finish the project on time or face penalties every 15 minutes the project is not finished.
This series of demolition is just the first phase of preparation for the new Mississippi River Bridge.
