Jupiter, Fl (KMOV) - More and more players continue to arrive to Jupiter in anticipation of Spring Training. Today, among the new arrivals are Cardinal ace Chris Carpenter, Gold Glover Yadier Molina, and Skip Schumaker. While pitchers and catchers don't have to report until Wednesday (and position players even later than that), a lot of players arrive early to get in the swing (no pun intended) of things before the first workout.
New Cardinal signees Rich Hill and Brad Penny threw off the mound today as well. Penny, who is known for frequently showing up to camp overweight in the past, looks surprisingly fit. Penny and pitching coach Dave Duncan worked closely during the two-time All-Star’s throwing session, and it appeared there was some good chemistry between the two. Duncan’s work with Penny could be the difference between a successful or failing pitching campaign.
On a random note, Jason Motte seems to be a workout fiend. Today after a decent bullpen session, Motte decided to go for a seven mile run. I overheard him telling other players he regularly runs at least 13 miles. Boy, does that make me feel lazy. I’m going to stop writing now and go do something active.
More from Cards spring training on the way…
