ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV) – MoDOT closed a bridge over Interstate 70 in downtown St. Louis after inspectors found deterioration problems.
For the second time in less than a month, MoDOT has been forced to close a bridge over I-70. This time it is the southbound Broadway Avenue Bridge in downtown St. Louis, just east of the Edward Jones Dome.
MoDOT said inspectors noticed deterioration during a routine maintenance inspection Saturday morning. After hearing that, MoDOT officials decided to close the bridge.
The bridge was built back in 1958 and MoDOT says about 2,500 vehicles cross the bridge each day. Officials say it may be sometime next week before the bridge re-opens.
For now, blockades are in place to prevent people from traveling over the bridge. MoDOT says any traffic traveling under the bridge is still safe.
