CHICAGO (AP) -- U.S. senators Dick Durbin of Illinois and Sherrod Brown of Ohio have departed for a trip to Africa.
Durbin's office said in a news release that the senators departed Friday and planned to visit Tanzania, Congo, Ethiopia and Sudan. They were expected to return to the United States on Feb. 19.
The release says the senators would focus on several different topics, including global health, maternal and infant mortality, clean water and economic development, among other issues.
The senators also were to discuss regional peacekeeping and diplomatic issues.
