GLEN CARBON, Ill. (AP) -- A national magazine has named Glen Carbon's public library the best in the nation.
The honor bestowed by Library Journal comes on top of Money Magazine naming the Madison County community one of the best small towns in America to live.
Glen Carbon Centennial Library was a runner-up for the award a few years ago, and this year it won after its usage increased by one-third in two years.
Director Anne Hughes says the library has focused on programs and partnerships to serve its population, and a recent $50,000 technology grant nearly doubled its computer offerings.
In fact, there have been 36 grants in 15 years to fund programs and services without digging into tax funds.
