The family of Kirkwood City Councilwoman Connie Karr filed a wrongful death suit today against Whelan Security, the company which provided the security guard for Council meetings. The suit alleges that the company knew that Cookie Thornton had threatened city employees before and when he entered City Hall that night the guard should have done more than tell police he was there and leave the building. Whelan says it has no legal liability and will defend the suit vigorously. The attorney for the family, Chet Pleban, says its not about the money for the relatives, its about closure. The parties involved, or the courts, will decide how this plays out, but it is clear the actions taken by Cookie Thornton by himself that night continue to wound.
