(KMOV)—A woman is dead as the result of a house fire in north St. Louis.

This happened around 4 p.m. Wednesday in the 400 block of Ashland.

Authorities said they were unable to reach the 2nd floor bedroom where a woman was trapped because of the flames. The woman, who's name has not been released yet, was declared dead at the scene.

Authorities said her husband, also a resident at the home, escaped unharmed.

Three neighbors heard the husband cry for help. They tried to rescue the woman before firefighters arrived but the flames were too much for them as well.

An investigation on the cause of the fire is underway.
