(KMOV) -- A child died after collapsing during a youth football practice.
It happened Tuesday evening on the field across from McCluer South-Berkeley High School in Ferguson.
Authorities said he was rushed to Christian Northwest hospital in Hazelwood.
He was pronounced dead about an hour and a half after he collapsed.
The head coach of the team was pretty much numb when News 4 talked to him on the field soon after the child was rushed to the hospital.
He told News 4 practice for the Berkley Junior Bulldogs was just getting started shortly after 6 p.m.
He said the 7th and 8th graders were stretching when one youngster collapsed.
The coach told News 4 the boy was not talking or communicating in any way as he was loaded into the ambulance.
Coaches decided to go ahead and continue with practice to put the kid's minds on something positive.
Again, these players had not exerted themselves at all and it was 81 degrees when the child collapsed.
His name is not being released at this time.
