LINCOLN, Ill. (AP) -- John Newlun's Ford F-150 pickup truck is dotted with bullet holes and blood stains.
No matter. Newlun and his wife, Teresa, say they'd really like for police to give it back to them.
Police in Lincoln are holding the truck as evidence in the investigation of the shooting of a man John Newlun gave a ride on July 20.
Police pulled Newlun over while he was giving the man, 32-year-old Michael Knuth, a ride. Investigators say Knuth, whom Newlun didn't know, pointed a gun at police and officers shot him.
Knuth has recovered and is charged with attempted murder.
Logan County State's Attorney Michael McIntosh sympathizes with the Newluns. But the truck, he says, has to stay with police for now.
