ST. LOUIS (AP) -- With training camp opening on Thursday, the St. Louis Rams will have their second-round draft pick there on time.
The Rams on Wednesday announced the signing of Ohio State linebacker James Laurinaitis, the 35th overall pick in the April draft. Terms were not disclosed, but STLtoday.com, the Web site for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports it is a four-year deal.
Laurinaitis is a three-time first-team All-American with 375 career collegiate tackles, including 130 last season.
The Rams continue to negotiate with first-round pick Jason Smith, the offensive tackle from Baylor who was the second overall selection.
Rookies and selected veterans begin workouts on Thursday at Rams Park in suburban St. Louis, with the rest of the squad beginning practice on Friday.
