Quinn signs bills to benefit veterans

CHICAGO (AP) -- Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn has signed more than 20 bills into law, including several aimed at benefiting the state's veterans.

Quinn signed the bills Sunday in Chicago alongside Dan Grant, director of the state Department of Veterans' Affairs.

Among the bills signed was the War on Terrorism Compensation Act, which makes veterans of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom eligible for a $100 bonus.

Quinn says the state can never fully repay veterans for their service but that the bill shows their sacrifices are appreciated.

Another bill creates a task force to examine the job training given to active military service members, while another doubles the tax credit to employers on the wages of qualified veterans.
