Feds urge court: keep Blago wiretaps sealed

CHICAGO (AP) -- Prosecutors are urging a federal judge to keep the wiretaps of former Gov. Rod Blagojevich's phone conversations under wraps.

Cable News Network has asked Judge James B. Zagel to unseal the wiretaps, saying the public should have a chance to hear what Blagojevich said in "perhaps the single biggest corruption scandal in Illinois history."

Blagojevich is charged with scheming to sell or trade President Obama's U.S. Senate seat and illegally pressure campaign contributors.

But prosecutors said in court papers Thursday that what the network is asking is contrary to federal law.

Prosecutors added the release of the materials that CNN seeks would hurt ongoing criminal investigations being conducted by the government.
