(KMOV)-- A University City couple believes they may have made history this past weekend in Chicago.
Gabe Crawford proposed to Danielle Perron Saturday afternoon on the 103-story high Skydeck observation room of the Willis Tower in Chicago. The Willis Tower was formerly known as the Sears Tower, and remains the tallest building in the United States and one of the tallest in the world. Since the change from Sears Tower to Willis Tower just became official a few days before they arrived, Gabe and Danielle felt they might be the first couple to become engaged on the famous observatory, known as Skydeck Chicago. Gabe sent an email to the Skydeck along with a photo of the moment he proposed. (The picture was snapped by a friend who knew all about Gabe's plan to "pop the question.") The Skydeck responded saying they think this may indeed be the first proposal there, and certainly the first time anyone has sent them a picture. So now Gabe and Danielle's big moment is on the Skydeck Chicago twitter sight.
As for the engagement, Danielle says she was completely caught off guard. "When he went down on his knee and grabbed my hand, I thought he was just trying to pull me down for a closer look through the glass floor. I wouldn't do it because I was already pretty scared up there. And then he pulled out the ring and I couldn't believe it. Me and my girlfriend and Gabe all started crying and everyone else up there thought it was really cool, too."
Danielle and Gabe haven't set a wedding date, but are planning to marry next year.
