Corn planting nearing completion in Illinois

A break in the weather this month allowed some Illinois farmers an opportunity to wrap up corn planting, with soybeans not that far behind.

The figures on planting as of June 15 were released last week by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Agriculture Statistics Service.

Rainfall amounts varied across the state, and the Illinois River remained above flood stage for a long time, with many farm fields flooded by water or with flooded or wet areas. Some producers replanted corn and soybeans two and three times, if they were able to get into their fields at all.
