(KMOV) -- The Hampton Avenue overpass leading into Forest Park reopened Friday afternoon.
For the last eight months the intersection at Hampton and Wells at the main entrance to Forest Park has been shutdown to all traffic.
A ribbon cutting on top of the bridge Friday morning kicked off the opening of the overpass to walkers and bikers.
Cars were let onto the bridge at 1:00 p.m.
Businesses in the area celebrated this milestone.
Crews are opening two lanes of traffic in each direction over the bridge leading to a roundabout and special turn lanes at the entrance of the park.
During the ribbon cutting, crews worked feverishly to finish planting in the roundabout and islands.
The entire Highway 40/I-64 project is scheduled to be complete by the end of this year.
At that time the bridge will also have designated left turn lanes onto the highway.
