The city of Edwardsville is rethinking its plans to allow TransCanada Keystone, LP to use its roadways for heavy construction loads.
The company, constructing an oil pipeline from Canada to Wood River, has asked the city for permission to use its streets - specifically Liberty Street -to transport products, equipment, materials or supplies for the construction of the pipeline.
Alderman and Public Service Committee Chair Rich Walker said the company is asking to haul the pipes for the line through 30 to 60 semi-truck loads each weighing about 80,000 pounds along Liberty Street.
A measure to allow the mayor to sign a haul route agreement with the company was on the city council agenda on Tuesday. But before a vote, Walker said the city would like to hold the resolution until it can be discussed further by the Public Service Committee.
