ALTON - Vietnam War veteran Michael Eugene Weber recently revisited the country that broke him, but this time he came home whole.
On this Memorial Day, Weber is thinking back on the more than 20 years he spent in the U.S. Army, his harrowing days of service and his recent trip back to Vietnam to help build a school.
Weber graduated from East Alton-Wood River High School in 1969 and joined the Army so that he could further his education. But the education he received was not exactly what he planned. While in the service, Weber went to Northwestern Oklahoma State and received a bachelor's degree in business administration, but he also received lessons in humanity in Vietnam that he would realize later.
