The village of Glen Carbon is in good shape and has a balanced General Fund budget that was recently approved, Mayor Robert Jackstadt reported to the village board recently.
General fund expenditures have stayed generally flat over the past three fiscal years, he said and for the fourth straight year, the village did not exceed budgeted expenses.
However, he warned that the village is not immune to the negative effects of the state of the economy and will face many challenges in fiscal year 2010.
"We will see our revenue sources flatten out and perhaps even decrease over the next few years," the mayor said. "Last fiscal year, we saw a decrease in the amount of income tax we received from the state. Retail sales for the majority of our village are flat if not decreasing. Our village EAV will be leveling off."
