ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – A number of protestors gathered in downtown St. Louis on Tuesday as Congressman Todd Akin was about to take the podium for an afternoon press conference.
The demonstrators converged on Washington Avenue between 8th and 9th Streets to rally against Akin in his bid to unseat Claire McCaskill in the November U.S. Senate race.
Akin held the press conference hours before a deadline passed for him to drop out of the race.
Akin so far has showed no indication he intends to drop out and cave in to Republican pressure after his controversial rape comments last month.
Under Missouri law, any candidate who wants to drop out must submit a court order to the Secretary of State’s Office by 5 p.m.
