FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. (KMOV) – A woman is in custody after leading police on a chase through Fairview Heights.
According to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department, officers attempted to make a drug stop on a female driver late Sunday evening in the Fairview Heights area.
As the officer was getting out of the police cruiser, the female driver fled the scene. Police say she nearly missed hitting the officer as she fled.
Belleville Police later spots the car at Route 161 and Dutch Hollow Road at approximately 1 a.m. Officers began chasing the vehicle for 20 minutes as the suspect drove at speeds of 55-65 miles-per-hour on Frank Scott Parkway.
Cahokia Police assisted in the chase, deploying spike strips near Route 157 and Route 15, where the chase ended.
The suspect was taken into custody at the scene.
No formal charges have been filed at this time.
