STAUNTON, Ill. (KMOV) – Police are investigating the cause of a one-vehicle accident that left a man dead in Staunton, Illinois Thursday morning.
Authorities said 42-year-old Thomas Gusewelle was driving eastbound on Renken Road near Dustman when his car left the road and rolled down an embankment.
Investigators responded to the wreck and pronounced Gusewelle dead at the scene.
Authorities said a preliminary investigation shows Gusewelle died of head and neck trauma.
Deputies said a routine toxicology test would determine if there was alcohol or drugs in his system when he wrecked.
Authorities said funeral arrangements were being made by Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton.
Staunton is located about 42 miles north of downtown St. Louis.
