Mizzou defense hopes for some quarterback rust

COLUMBIA, Mo. (Missouri Football App) -- When Mizzou and South Carolina take the field Saturday afternoon in Columbia, South Carolina, the Tigers defense will be trying to stop junior quarterback Connor Shaw.  Shaw injured his shoulder in the Gamecocks first game of the season against Vanderbilt.

Shaw didn’t start in South Carolina’s second game of the season against East Carolina.  And he started last week against UAB, but left the game after re-injuring his shoulder.  Sophomore backup quarterback Dylan Thompson has served as a reliable replacement for Shaw yet South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier says Shaw will be the starter.

In Shaw’s absence, Thompson threw for 507 yards and 5 touchdowns and he’s only the backup.  Mizzou’s defense is allowing just less than 200 yards passing per game and hope that Shaw’s injury will be a positive for the Tiger’s defense on Saturday.
