ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV) — Two suspects were in custody after a lengthy police chase that spread across the bi-state early Friday morning.
Police say the incident began near the intersection of Kingshighway and Winona around 1 a.m. after officers attempted to pull over a vehicle that made an illegal turn and was seen driving without headlights on.
As officers were walking up to the vehicle, the driver put the car in reverse and attempted to run the officers over. The suspects then sped off.
The officers pursued the suspects across St. Louis city and into St. Louis County. Police say at some points, the suspects were driving on the wrong side of Interstate 40 and 170.
St. Louis County Police called the chase off once the suspects drove into Illinois. Officers later spotted the vehicle back in Missouri, and St. Louis County police officers then continued the pursuit.
Officers threw out spike strips, which caused the suspects' tire to shred. They continued the chase as the suspects drove on the car's rims.
Eventually the car gave out on Barret Station Road. The two people inside the vehicle were taken into custody.
